Hello tallies,

The how berkeley can you be parade is going to be amazing this year. Epic Arts in Berkeley is now the organizer, and things are getting FUNKY.

I would like to get a bunch of folks, short or tall, to join me in the parade to WORSHIP the gods & godesses of PETROLEUM. Other cultures who have been dependent on things like corn, fish, good weather, etc. worshipped these things, so shouldn't we be getting down to some tribal worshipping of petroleum? So, the idea is to have a symbol of petroleum (gas pump, oil barrel, flaming oil drilling thing) turned into an altar and pushed through the parade to the sound of tribal drums, with random worshippers dancing around / prostrating, etc. - regular people, business greedy people, george bush, hussein, crusty oily scary freaks, along with some pagan creatures who try to dance/play with the oil obsessed freaks.

Anyone interested please email me!

  • hey!
so good to hear from you mizz la colline!
    sounds fun!
is there to be workshops at your house to make stuff or just come as you are sorta thing?

    ..ajax..
    • good question...I think a combination of workshops plus come as you are gives a lot of flexibility. So anyone who's into preparing costumes / sculptures / music for this is welcome to come on over. I could especially use help making a petroleum altar!

ajax I have not been on my stilts in way too long, when will we play again????? anything goin on on Sunday afternoon?
      • ha!
i haven't been on my stilts since fire arts weekend. i think doing four days in a row (i stilted in dolores park on sunday and got paid!) did me in. but the break has been nice, however, we need to get high again soon! so far no plans for sunday... hmmm. anyone interested?

aaaah a blazing oil alter... nothing could be finer.

        missin' you in sf,

        • daaaamn, things are getting busy! I'd love to find a few people interested in putting in some work on this to make it happen. I don't think it would be a huge amount of work. If we could round up a few people to work on the altar, and find a few drummers, we could make it work. It's always easy to find stragglers who can show up at the last second, but it's hard to find people to commit and put some work in. I'll be around this Sunday, does anyone want to get together? I'm gone from Thurs - Sat PM. If anyone is interested, give my cell phone a call, 510-851-0290, it is usually turned off during the week, but I'll have it turned on this weekend including Sunday. I could also be up for some play time in the park.

Hey Everyone - things are coming together - here's what I have:

-a flatbed truck running on biodiesel, with a solar powered sound system - on it we will have music/drummers and an OIL DEVIL (the satanic god of petroleum), intermittently playing music & ordering us to bow down and worship this stinky fuel
-I'll be building a petroleum altar AND NEED HELP if you can spare some time this Monday or next Sunday.
-Freakies are needed to worship the petroleum devil and altar. Come on stilts, come on foot, come on bike or skateboard, come as George Bush or Saddam Hussein or an insane soccer mom minivan driver, smear black stuff on yourself, or be an oil addicted business man with an IV drip delivering black crude oil to your jugular vein, or come as any old freak and be ready to dance and worship!

After the parade is a big festival, stick around & party down!

        Hey kids,

well damn, the biodiesel truck is not happening. BUT, plan B has been implemented, which is EQUALLy if not MORE enticing. It sure as hell is easier to put together!

A Brazilian band called Oxossi will be playing on a moving float in the parade, and a while ago, while the petroleum idea was still plan A, I was asked if we could join them. I am in the process of confirming that they are still interested, which I'm sure they are. And then I'll tell you.

If not, it's plan C - stilt soccer in the parade! which we could still do along with plan B. We'd have to be sure that we can do a gentle stilt soccer so that we don't kill any toddlers. I am not making sense, I've been working for 11 hours!!

whether we do plan B, C or freaking Z, this information will not change:

Sept. 19, 10:27 AM (10:55 at the latest - last year they did start on time at 11), get yourself to California and University.

I will be there, you may recognize me as one of the tall ones. If you get there after noon - 1ish, you may still catch the tail end of the parade and just hop in wherever. FYI, the end of the parade is the art cars (smoggy but funky). If it's late you could just head over to the festival at Center & MLK, where there will be a lot of great music and stilting fun.

Dress freakily in any fashion. Some sort of stilt covering device would be a good minimum. Think of ways to interact with the crowd - something to toss to people or pull a rabbit out of a hat or just smile or maybe be grumpy. Be ready to dance. Be ready for hot weather - bring water at least. I will try to arrange for a place for us to throw a back pack or whatever so that it can get delivered to the end of the parade at MLK park (Center & MLK).

I plan to leave my car near the festival, and then hitch a ride to the beginning of the parade, because I'm helping to set up some generators & solar panels at the festival. So, if our timing works out, I can give you a ride back to the beginning of the parade.

I like to get to the beginning of the parade a little early to check everyone out, it's complete, insane chaos.

Anyone interested in parade preparations - I'll be working on some stuff this Sunday, and probably a little next Thursday/Friday also.

        Voila la colline

Hey, anyone going to 9/11 power to the peaceful? I think I'll be there too.
